![]() We discover that certain classes of wizarding people are deeply prejudiced against muggle-born wizards, and get hints that non-magical people born into wizarding families ( squib) are despised most of all. In this instalment, she reveals a bad side to the wizarding world. Rowling said she had the whole seven-book series in mind when she started writing the first book. Slytherins are renowned for their ambition, and also for using any meansfair or foulto achieve their goals. His main rival at Hogwarts is Draco Malfoy, who is in the Slytherin House. All three are in the same year group and all three are in the Gryffindor House, which emphasises courage above all other qualities Harry has two main friends at Hogwarts, Hermione Granger, a girl born to muggle (non-wizard) parents, and Ron Weasley, a boy born to Wizarding parents. Harry's parents are dead, killed by Voldemort when Harry was still a baby. In the first book Harry and Voldemort met and did battle twice, with Harry coming off the better both times. Harry's nemesis and supreme baddie in Rowling's fictional world is Lord Voldemort, who, for reasons as yet undisclosed, wants to kill Harry. Potter is expected to spend seven years at Hogwarts, each year the subject of a single book. It tells the story of the young wizard, Harry Potter as he attends his second year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This is the second in the Harry Potter series of books by J.K. Random note: I'm pretty sure director Columbus was supposed to have a cameo somewhere.I'm just not sure where it was. Its somewhat darker content, combined with its higher quality, made it much more enjoyable for me than the first. There are some scary and some startling moments in this movie, but I generally recommend it to everyone over the age of say, six or seven. All the returning cast was as good as ever, especially Richard Harris, and with the exception of Daniel Radcliffe, who is a pretty poor actor. Jason Isaacs was excellent as Lucius Malfoy, Kenneth Branagh was perfect as Gilderoy Lockhart, and I look forward to seeing more of Robert Hardy as Cornelius Fudge in future movies. The rest of the monsters range from stupid to stupefying: a giant spider looks like a puppet, but his minions are flawlessly animated, and while some shots of a basilisk are decent CG, others could be latex and chicken wire. Dobby the House Elf is a pretty damn good CG character who looks a lot like Yoda on a diet. The effects, as I mentioned, are far superior to those in the first movie however, they are still somewhat inconsistent in quality. (I heard that AOL Time-Warner was scared shitless that it would get a PG-13 rating.) I'm not looking forward to taking my 8-year-old brother to see it. In addition to a generally slicker production, the movie is also much more dark and violent: besides some really creepy shit that I'd rather not talk about (yeah, I'm arachnophobic), there is a fair amount of blood for a PG movie. The effects are tighter, the dialogue is less hokey, and the casting is even more superb. ![]() To put it simply, this is a much better movie than Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. (Mild spoilers only for those who haven't read the book.) Harry and his friends attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery, and in doing so uncover much more than they bargained for, from snakes to secret diaries to the Chamber Of Secrets ![]() Who is behind the attacks? Is it Malfoy, gamekeeper Hagrid or even Harry himself? The biggest fear of all is that Lord Voldemort is trying to make his evil return.
